WSK Masters Siena Report

Raquel returned to a familiar track in Italy to make her second KF2 start in Europe after moving up from KF3 in the middle of the season. The fifteen-year-old driver from California was confident she could move up in the order after successful testing.

After a successful two days of testing Raquel was disappointed with her qualifying effort putting her in the 30th position, but she was looking forward to the heats to be able to move up in the order. After finishing in the top 15 in each of three heat races, Raquel guaranteed her spot in the finals starting in the 27th position for the prefinal. This was already an improvement from her first race. Raquel got off to a great start in the prefinal and was able to move up to 19th position giving her a great start for the final. Raquel suffered an injury earlier in the season and just before the final the injury returned and make it very difficult to drive in the final. Raquel pushed through the pain and was able to finish in the 27th position.

“It’s disappointing that my knee pains flared up before I went out for the final,” commented Martinez. “I was confident that we could get our best result. I am very happy with the progress so far and am looking forward to my next race and going up against the best in world in the WSK Euro Series.”

Next weekend Raquel will head to La Conca for the WSK Euro Series June 23. She will then head to Beaverun for the fourth round of the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup where she will look to defend her point’s lead.
