![]() Just days after turning fourteen years old, Raquel Martinez and Martinez Racing headed north to Infineon Raceway for the final round of the Gatorz Challenge of Americas. While looking forward to racing at one of her favorite tracks in the country, Raquel was hopeful she would finish the championship on a high note. Saturday did not start as the team had hoped with Raquel qualifying in the 13th position. Getting off to a great start in the prefinal, she was able to work her way up to the 7th spot. The team went to work on the kart before the final and was able to find a bit more speed for Raquel. It was not an easy task, but Raquel fought hard to secure the fifth position in the final.
Sunday proved to be a much better day. Raquel qualified 8th but found major speed for the prefinal finishing in the 3rd spot with a last lap pass for the position. Raquel had some of the best starts of the weekend, but unfortunately she did not get off to the best start in final and fell back a few positions. Once the kart came in she was on fire hunting down third place and came up just a few laps short finishing in the fourth position.
“I am happy with another strong performance this weekend,” stated Martinez. “Every race we are improving and learning in preparation for the Grand Nationals later this year.”
